Do you know this couple? I'd love to find out who they are. Rare and possibly unique photographs of a 1920s Malay wedding on Christmas Island, showing the bride and groom on their decorated wedding dais and then later on the verandah in the Malay kampong, Flying Fish Cove. Check this and other 1920s Malay photographs at the Christmas Island Virtual Museum. Select Link in bio above. Go to the Collection page, click "All Categories" and photograph section is at the bottom of the drop down box. Let me know if anyone is from your family and I can then name them in the entries.

The Christmas Island Virtual Museum has had a complete makeover and is now living on the Christmas Island Archives server at its very own address https://museum.christmasislandarchives.com Link is in the bio above too.
The museum has been rebuilt from the ground up with a fresh new look. You can browse and search all the objects, filter by category, period or type, and view detailed images of each item. Whether you’re interested in coins, artefacts, ephemera or historical locations and photographs, there’s something to explore.
This is very much an ongoing project. If you have any good clear photos of Christmas Island relic and coin finds, historic ephemera or early historical photographs, the Archives would love to hear from you — all contributions can be kept anonymous if preferred.

"This is the memorial stone at the Settlement Chinese Cemetery, honouring the Island's coolie (ku li 苦力)."
“After this Island was taken by the great British Empire in 1888, our Chinese labourers, driven by the difficulties in earning a living back home, left behind their families, friends and soil to cross oceans far away, to overcome hurdles and danger, to experience all sorrow and sadness, and then they wandered to this lifeless abandoned island. They laboured day and night trying their hardest to explore this land to earn a living for over eighty long years.
In order to commemorate this moving historical story written in the blood, sweat and tears of our Chinese ancestors and older friends and their great endurance and courage, the Chinese Literary Association pays its respects by erecting this stone. Lest we forget. Erected on a celebrated date in the spring of 1971 by the C.L.A.”
Translation taken from the book Christmas Island – The Early Years by Jan Adams and Marg Neale.
